The upgrade of the Rome–Civita Castellana–Viterbo railway has reached a new milestone. The first of 31 level crossings with barriers included in the new contract has been activated in Civita Castellana, near the former Ponzano stop.
The level crossing is equipped with automatic barriers and advanced signalling systems. Its protection system was designed to achieve Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL 4) in accordance with applicable technology and safety standards.
The new installation helps improve crossing safety and the management of rail traffic along the line.
The WEGH Group Service team worked alongside the customer during verification, testing and commissioning of the new system. Its involvement highlights the value of technical support throughout the project, including after the equipment has been supplied.
The installation is part of a wider programme to upgrade the Rome–Civita Castellana–Viterbo railway. The programme aims to increase infrastructure reliability, reduce risks at level crossings and improve the regularity of rail services.
