WEGH Group to Supply a Long Line Plant for a New Railway Project in Colombia

A new railway project in South America will see WEGH Group supply Consorcio Constructor Línea Férrea with a Long Line plant for the production of prestressed concrete railway sleepers intended for the La Dorada–Chiriguaná railway line in Colombia. Shipment of the plant to the customer is expected soon.
The La Dorada–Chiriguaná railway line is a strategic connection for the revitalization of Colombia’s rail transport system. It will help improve links between the country’s inland regions and the railway network leading to the Caribbean ports, supporting the development of freight transport.
The WEGH Group Long Line plant will produce prestressed concrete railway sleepers measuring 1,920 mm in length, designed for a railway track gauge of 914 mm.
The plant will have a production capacity of 800 sleepers per day and feature a modular configuration, allowing for future expansions and increased production capacity in line with the customer’s evolving needs.
The plant will consist of two parallel production lines served by the same machinery, thanks to the production concept developed by WEGH Group. The integration of electromechanical solutions and assisted semi-automatic operations will combine flexibility with ease of operation, enabling the customer to maintain continuous control over the different stages of the production process.
WEGH Group’s contribution will also include the development of the railway sleeper design, including structural calculation reports and the relevant structural calculation validations in accordance with AREMA standards.
This technical support complements the plant supply and highlights WEGH Group’s expertise in designing production solutions and components for railway infrastructure.
The new project for the La Dorada–Chiriguaná railway line further consolidates WEGH Group’s presence in the South American railway market, where the company already has significant references. It represents another opportunity to contribute its know-how and technologies to the development of Colombia’s railway infrastructure.
