WEGH Group S.p.A. is awarded in ATI with other companies the supply of sleepers in CAP.
The sleepers are used by RFI, on the entire national network, in the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of the lines, an activity that periodically includes the replacement of the sleepers. WEGH Group, in its plant in Calcinate, Bergamo (one of the four production sites of the company in Italy) produces various types of sleepers requested by RFI, from standard sleepers for ordinary lines, to those for high-speed lines, up to switch sleepers and sleepers for special uses.
The value of the order, for the portion related to WEGH in 2017, is approximately 9 million euros. WEGH has an experience of more than 40 years in the design and production of sleepers in cavp not only for railway lines but also for metro and streetcar lines. It was also the first in Europe to introduce the technology of prefabricated ballastless platforms, which ensure significant advantages both from a performance and an economic point of view, thanks to the lower maintenance costs required and therefore a lower lifetime cost of the Ballast Track.
