WEGH Group built the superstructure for the whole 24 km of line, using various types of superstructure solutions depending on the specific needs of each section.
The solution most widely used was the traditional ballast type, including the insertion of an elastomeric bed in the centre of the city to meet vibration damping requirements.
Where the tramway crosses the road, a system using prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs was adopted and laid on a foundation with the insertion of a special bedding slab designed to make the crossings transitable for road traffic.
Furthermore, in certain points (a number of viaducts and in the Borgo Palazzo tunnel, right in the city centre) a built-on-site system (bottom-up or top-down) was chosen due to the limited amount of space available, both in terms of height and width.
Finally, in the so-called Orobica tunnel, a floating slab tramway system was used to further reduce vibrations due to the close proximity of the gas pipeline
WEGH Group also designed and built the vehicle maintenance shed.
